Instead of imposing an ideal model of leadership, he lays the philosophical foundations that allow institutions to make their own choice of the model (or models) best suited for their values and unique historical circumstances. As such, the book can best be described as an interdisciplinary and cross-cultural guide for policy makers, particularly those concerned with the selection and training of leaders.

About the Author

Jolyon C. Parish completed a degree in Geology and Palaeontology at the Royal School of Mines, Imperial College, London, and wrote his D.Phil. at Oxford on the evolutionary history and paleobiology of Ankylosauria.

Amazing book

I really love this book - every piece of diverse information consolidated into one book. Probably not a good first book for those into dodos (Errol Fuller is a great starting point) but for someone who wants to examine comparisons between conflicting reports, second-hand illustrations and the kind of Chinese-whispers scenario through which much of our current information has come to pass, this book is ideal. My favourite book of the year.

Needed for Business Professionals

Allows you to see the framework and tactics that are implemented in various organizations. Whenever you look at another healthcare enterprise, you will begin to assess & identify their strategies & deficiencies based on the principles in this book - guaranteed. It isn't limited to just healthcare, you'll unconsciously start doing it to any business and probably your life (which is a perk for a current grad student like myself)

In general, if you're really organized and like to think in the future and enjoys creating action steps toward certain achievements/ benchmarks; strategic planning is your cup of tea.

decent book

This book isn't half bad. It is easy to read and the material is interesting. As long as you have some planning assignments to go along with it in class, the book is a great companion. I kept it because I am sure that I will look at it again in the future.

The book goes around the same topics about 5 different ways and uses different language each time (not in a helpful way). It was contradictory and made absolutely no chronological or logical sense in its structure. Avoid at all costs.
