Poor print quality, editing, and scholarship

The essays are good but similar material can be found elsewhere, and with better writing style and theory. The essays for the most part are prescriptive, lacking in critical scholarship (in other words I doubt many would pass rigorous peer review for journal publication), but contain generally good suggestions. And the combined bibliography, despite it being an anthology, is fairly extensive. My primary problem with this book is price : print quality and editing quality ratio. Typographical errors abound, but even worse, the inside margin goes beyond the preformed crease, forcing the reader to crease the book manually all the way to the binding and preventing underlining all the way to the inside of the book. For $25+ the publisher could've done better. Perhaps this was done to prevent copying of individual chapters, I don't know. If this had not been required reading for a pastoral care course, I would not have purchased it. If you can find an alternative to purchasing it, I would.

I would love to discuss this book with my peers

I am in training as a hospital chaplain, and would love to discuss this book with my peers. It makes an invaluable connection between systems of oppression and the private pain and suffering I encounter with patients. I was particularly influenced by chapter 14, "The Politics of Tears: Lamentation as Justice Making." Amazon says that Five Stars means 'I love it,' and that is right.

Great collection of essays...if you can ignore the typos.

It's strange that a book like this would contain typos...It's professionally published and edited yet they are hard to miss. For example, using Amazon's preview...you can see on page 5 at the paragraph beginning, "No, only does..." it should read, "Not only does." Then on page 12 the last line reads, "viewing pastoral careg in community..." it should be, "pastoral care...", without the g.
Again, it's a great collection of informative essays. Just don't be surprised to find typos.
